Terms of Service

Who can use Expatic
Expatic is for adults 18 and older. By signing in you confirm you meet that age. We use a combination of self-attested birthdate and Apple's Declared Age Range API (when available) to enforce this — if we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we remove it. Expatic isn't intended for anyone in a country where its services would be illegal.
Your account
You sign in with Apple. That means your Apple ID owns the account — you don't set a password with us, and revoking access via Settings → Apple ID → Sign in with Apple removes our ability to identify you on that device. You're responsible for what happens under your account. Don't share it.
How we use your data
The Privacy Policy has the full breakdown. In short: your travel data (passports, visas, flights, residency, currency favorites) lives on your device and, if you opt into iCloud, on Apple's servers under your Apple ID. Expatic never sells your data, never runs ads, and doesn't share your identity with the third-party services we call (WeatherKit, MapKit, AirLabs, Cloudflare).
Community rules
If you post in Community — meetups, Right Now, groups, comments — the Community Guidelines apply on top of these Terms. Personal events only. No harassment, hate speech, sexual content, spam, scams, or promotions. Reports get reviewed within 24 hours. Repeated violations get accounts banned from posting.
Content you post
You keep ownership of what you post. You grant Expatic a limited license to display your content to other users within the app for the purpose of running Community. Delete a post and that license ends for that content, everywhere. Delete your account and every post you've made is removed from Expatic's public CloudKit database.
Reliability of visa, safety and emergency information
Expatic tracks visas, residency days, flight schedules, consulate contacts, government travel advisories, and local emergency numbers using the best sources we have. Visa rules and government policies change without notice. Airlines rearrange gates, cancel flights, and misreport schedules. Travel advisories are a snapshot of what three governments published on the date shown, not live guidance. Emergency numbers are bundled for offline use and checked against national government sources, but numbers change and coverage varies by region — in a real emergency, dial the number posted locally or ask your accommodation. Use Expatic as one input alongside official government, airline and local sources — never as your only source. We don't accept liability for missed flights, overstayed visas, refused entry, or reliance on information that has since changed. That responsibility stays with you.
Subscriptions
Nomad and Expat are auto-renewing subscriptions managed by Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation. Renewals happen 24 hours before the period ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Cancel anytime in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions — cancelling ends renewal but doesn't refund the current period. Unused portions of a free trial are forfeited on purchase of a paid subscription. Any refund questions go through Apple's App Store support.
Family Sharing
The Expat tier is enabled for Family Sharing. If a family organizer subscribes to Expat, up to five additional family members can access Expat features on their own accounts (six people total, per Apple Family Sharing). Family Sharing eligibility is set per-subscription in App Store Connect and can be turned off with a Family Sharing setting in iOS — no code change on our side.
Things you can't do
Don't reverse-engineer the app. Don't scrape our CloudKit public database or hammer our third-party integrations. Don't impersonate anyone. Don't use Expatic to plan or coordinate anything illegal. Don't try to circumvent the age gate, moderation, or subscription enforcement.
We might change these Terms
If we materially change these Terms — new data collection, changes to your rights, new subscription rules — we'll notify you in-app and re-prompt for acceptance. The version date above tells you which revision you're reading. Continued use after a re-prompt is your acceptance of the new version.
Ending your account
You can delete your account anytime from Profile → Delete Profile. That wipes every SwiftData record on your device, every CloudKit public record you created (meetups, groups, comments, RSVPs, Right Now posts, presence pings), the App Group container, pending notifications, and active Live Activities. We can also suspend or end your account if you materially violate these Terms or the Community Guidelines — usually after repeated warnings, immediately for serious harm.
Disclaimers
Expatic is provided "as is." We work hard on accuracy but don't warrant that the app is uninterrupted, error-free, or that any specific visa/flight/consulate detail is current. To the maximum extent allowed by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, Expatic isn't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app — missed flights, denied entry, lost bookings, business interruptions. Where liability can't be excluded, it's limited to the amount you paid Expatic in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Expatic Inc.'s country of registration. If you're in the EU or UK, mandatory local consumer-protection rights still apply on top of these Terms. Disputes go through the courts of that same jurisdiction unless local law requires otherwise.
